Electrical Definitions

Planar Process : The method of fabricating semiconductor junction devices in which a layer of silicon dioxide is grown on silicon substrate of required conductivity.

PN Junction : A two terminal solid state junction made from a semiconductor that has been treated to conduct current more readily in one direction than in the other.

PNPN Device : A three junction semiconductor device normally silicon with alternative p-type and n-type layers. It is used for power switching purposes.

PNP Transistor : A semiconductor device where the collector and emitter are made from p-type semiconductor material while the base is made from n-type material.

Pocketing : Mass removal of material within a predetermined boundary by means of NC machining.

Power Amplifier : An RF or AF amplifier that delivers maximum output power to a load rather than providing a maximum voltage gain.

PPI (Plan Position Indicator) : A display used in radars for observing target returns in the form of a bright spot on the screen.

Priority Encoder : A digital logic circuit that produces a coded output corresponding to the highest valued input.

Propogation Delay : The time interval between the occurrence of an input transition and the corresponding output transmission.

Pulse : A momentary, sharp change in a current, voltage or other quantity that is normally constant, characterised by a rise and fall of finite duration various pulse parameters are shown inside.

Push Pull Amplifier : An amplifier that uses two similar vaccum tubes or transistors with their grid or base leads connected in phase opposition while the plate or collector leads are connected in parallel to a common load.
